I previously touched on the new Daiwa Caldia’s popping on around alot of japanese fishing stores, and it was only a matter of time before at least an adaption of the Caldia hit ozzy shores. It looks like our wishes have been granted and Daiwa Australia has officially announced the imminent release of the new look Caldia .

Daiwa’s legendary Caldia returns in 2010 sporting a brand new look, with its classy pearl white colour, burnt orange and gunmetal cosmetics, the new Caldia is guaranteed to get hearts racing.

There does not appear to be anything overly special but if it’s anything like the previous model Caldias they will be a mid-priced power house of a reel. I’ve seen plenty of good fish caught on the original and looking forward to seeing what these new look Caldia’s can do in 2010.

Can’t wait to put hand on one of these hotties….anyone know the date of release and how much is it?

  2. Josh says:

Not sure of the release date yet but the previous caldia’s were around $279 so one would imagine a similar RRP.

Just an update they are due early Feb!

thanks Josh….what do u think about the shimano stradic CI4?since both the caldia and the new stradic is on the $300 price range, it might be interesting to compare them.

  5. Josh says:

Both reels will serve you well I’m sure. But a few things to keep in mind, the new caldia does not use daiwas lighter “Zaion” body so the Stradic wins out in the weight capacity being almost 50 grams lighter than the Caldia.

Shimano’s warranty(10 years vs 5 years) is better but as I said in the post I have seldom see any problems with the original caldias and think that neither reel would have a need for a warranty issue if they are treated correctly.

i thought they were supposed to come out early feb, its mid march alsmost!!!

  7. Josh says:

As far as I’m aware Daiwa Aust has already received the reels in Oz. So they should be available(maybe by request if not stocked) by your local store.

Already bought 1(Caldia 3000) at MYR600.00 (malaysia). I will use it on 6th July on my casting trip at Malaccan Straits (hopefully caught some GT and Queenfish on this)..

They are nice reels. I am currently using one for Coho salmon in Vancouver. Great value for money.
