After over a decade on the market, the world famous Shimano Trinidad series has received an overhaul and out comes the new Trinidad A Series.

While the reels were virtually flawless the main issue with the original Trinidad was the lack of drag pressure. The whole drag system has been updated along with modern gearing. Aesthetically they look almost identical except for the obvious transition from gold to the every popular gunsmoke grey theme.

For me one of the most exciting changes to the Trinidad series is the addition of the Tini-Trini…A Trinidad 10A. The original 12 Trinidad was a bit of a well kept secret amongst angling crowds but because of this the sales were not as expected and Shimano Australia dropped the 12 from the original range. No doubt the 12A and the new 10A will quickly come cult favorites, complimenting the rest of the range 14A, 16NA, 16A, 20A and 30A.

The AFTCO GBR Harness was designed in conjunction with I.G.F.A. Hall of Fame Captain Peter B. Wright and tested on giant black marlin on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The GBR Harness is the ultimate tool for applying maximum amounts of drag pressure when fighting giant game fish from the fighting chair. The GBR is designed to be used with the “stiff‐legged” technique using 80lb‐ Unlimited tackle in fighting chairs with seat widths over 20 inches wide.

The shell of the bucket is constructed of vacuum‐bagged epoxy fiberglass and carbon fiber, and the interior padding is extra‐firm closed‐cell foam with a heavy duty Spandura covering. The trim, beading and zippers are all constructed of the finest marine grade materials available, and will give you years of trouble free service with minimum care. All of the stitching on each harness is done individually with heavy duty nylon thread. The 2” adjusting straps are custom jacquard‐woven nylon web with knitted in numbers for individual sizing for multiple anglers. The 316‐stainless steel custom ladder‐locks are easily adjustable to fit adult anglers of most sizes.

The 2” ladder‐locks, spring‐swivel reel lug attachment snaps, and the window bezel are all fully polished 316‐marine grade stainless steel…the best available! All of the AFTCO GBR Harness components are easily washable synthetics designed to be extremely durable for many years of rugged use. The interior shell can be removed from the AFTCO GBR Harness by the customer for custom monogram painting in the window area on back, or vinyl lettering can be applied to the 11” wide by 4” high window without removing the shell from the cover.

The AFTCO GBR Harness measures 10” high and 21” wide and weighs 4.9 pounds.

A company well know for their out there names has done it again, with the Nitro Kamikaze and Widow Maker series. Nitro have really pulled out the Swiss Army knife of rods with these two big game all-rounders, designed to tackle just about anything you can throw at them.

Heavy duty spinning reels such as the Stella or Saltigas are designed to be versatile and reliable in any fishing conditions. Nitro has made the Kamikaze and Widow Maker rods to suit this versatility. From Trolling and Cubing, to Jigging or Popping these rods can take it all.

On the lighter end of the scale, we have the Kamikaze which is a 15kg, 6 foot rod. With a lure weight of 57 to 368 grams it can be used to throw light weight metal slices at tuna right up to dropping medium to large jigs for Samson and Kingfish.

The heavier of the two is the Widow Maker. With its 24kg line rating and equal 6 foot length this is the whopper stopper you have been looking for. With a capable lure weight of up to 624 grams this rod is ideal for working those bigger jigs in the depths, or throwing those dumbbell sized poppers for Giant Trevally. Drag weight on Nitro’s widow maker is a respectable 18kg @ 45 degrees.

Both rods are fitted out with the best componentry, including fuji silicons and hypalon grips. While still retaining Nitro’s famous simplicity or the black on black finish. Both rods are two piece making them easily transportable to those far away locations we all love to fish.

After using a few Innovator Nitros in my time and never failing to be impressed, I’m sure these two new additions to the ever increasing family of Innovator rods will be just as impressive. Check them out at your local tackle store today.

Gancrafts new EGI (Squid) lures are quite possibly the hottest looking squid jigs to hit Australian shores. They have taken jigs to a whole new level of realism with the likes of the Evil Fish and much more.

Gancraft have opted to go with out the traditional cloth outer skin on their Evil fish jigs, rather trying out a newer smooth surface. Research suggests that they are more likely to hold onto the jig with a smooth skin as it mimics the hard small smooth scales off a bait fish.

They have also gone away with the stabilizing side feathers thanks to a new “hydrodynamic” keel weight. They are perfectly balanced to sink realistically while still keeping the ability to dart on retrieve.

One thing that caught my eye is the fact that Gancraft manufacture all hooks in house. These days using third partys is all too often the norm. The stainless steel hooks fitted on the evil fish jigs are oversized and offset, creating the perfect weapon against passing squids tentacles.

If these jigs work as well as they look, I’m sure these will quickly become a hot favourite among EGI anglers.

Utilizing the same technology that fishing line manufacturers have been for years, Aqua Teko are harnessing the invisibility and strength factor of flurocarbon and turned it into a swivel.

Currently the range is quite limited, with maximum breaking strain swivel available at around 55lb, Which is still one hefty fish.

Over here in Australia we have a lot of species that are notorious for mistakenly biting swivels thinking the “sparkling gold thing” is a dinner, resulting in bitten off rigs. With these new fluro swivels it will be almost impossible for a fish to spot the swivel which can only be a good thing. Stay tuned..

This larger Rigge measures 56mm and weighs in at 3.1 grams which at first assessment seems abit light on for the size but given the profile of this lure casting is not an issue.

Fished at slower paces the Rigge has a gentle but captivating side to side roll. Combine this with a few very very short twitches of the wrist and the lures bevilled bib shape allows it to present along the bottom very naturally.

The colour pallet that zip baits has provided for this lure is also of interest. In this particular “Smolt” pattern, Zipbaits have very cleverly juxtaposed a brighter colour with a duller one producing a smaller silhouette. Apart from that the lure is also availible in an array of great naturals all with custom coloured eyes.

I myself have already shared some great success with this lure, flathead especially seem to appriciate it. But whatever system you call your local I urge you to give this one a go its destined to produce results with those larger lazier fish.

At first glance the PX looks like something that belongs in a stir-fry rather than a tackle box. Ecogear have really nailed the prawn presentation with the PX. The lure presents a very narrow profile combined with a tiny concave lip right at the tow point. To add to the unique nature of this lure are two rubber feelers that trail off the rear treble.

On the water the body design and weight of the lure comes into its own. The bullet designed profile casts accordingly allowing big long casts over the flats. Now this lure can be fished very effectively in a variety of ways, however this lure really comes into its own when retrieved with a softer actioned rod. A constant steady downward flick of the wrist causes the lure to dart erratically from side to side at a consistent pace, just be mindful to drop the lure back to those fish coming in for look, this is where I believe the PX shines. When you drop the lure back it allows the rear of the PX to sink on a 45 angle. This is particularily effective on Bream and other flats species, and combined with the rubber feelers, makes one hell of an lure.

In terms of colours Ecogear has released the PX in a variety 8 colours. From a good range of naturals to a few juicy looking brighter greens and oranges. No matter what colour you tie on this is definitely one surface lure you cant afford not to have in your box… Ecogear you’ve done it again.
