Most people would be familiar with Braid Products’s harnesses and teasers, but they also make a range of jigs. We have Peter from Pro Tackle’s picks here to trial.
Top to bottom:
- Braid Slim-Swim in hot pink/glow, 70z, this is a head-weighted jig with a triangular profile and should be the bomb.
- Braid Long Hammer in blue/white, 70z, this is a centre-weighted jig with slim baitfish profile, er’re really expecing this one to product with the Sambos and other Seriola.
- Braid Aussie Jig in blue/white, 1.5oz, as an Aussie, I guess I have to give this offering a crack, I’ll probably break it out on some inshore pinks!
Look forward to some updates when we get them wet!

Peter from Pro Tackle sent us this recently. This Lamble Bait Darting Haoli is probably one of the oddest looking lures I’ve seen in the ongoing evolution of the mechanical jig is this . It looks like a cross between a regular jig and a inchiku.
Lamble Bait really have a good quality finish on the lure, and I’m looking forward to getting this one wet soon!
We will keep you up to date on how it fishes!
River2Sea Flexi Babe

River2Sea’s classic baby vibe for years has been one of the best selling bream lures on the market. Not alot has changed in the past few years, the same simple design has been catching tournament winning bream all over the country.
Well River2Sea has just released its brother, the Flexi Babe. A similarly designed vibe, they are made to send shock waves of vibration with the slightest of movements. Apart from a slightly different profile, the main point of difference is the flexible body. This soft to touch body keeps it apart from the baby vibe, and fools fish to another level with its realistic textured body. Fish are more prone to have repeated hits on softer, more realistic baits.
Wired through out it will stop any unwelcome toothy critters from getting away and fitted with chemically sharpened trebles. Available in 2 sizes and six colours, you can find them in tackle stores now for around $12AUD. For more information check out www.river2sea.com.au

From the get go, TT Switchblades have been popular amongst anglers in all walks. From the smaller bream sized blades, up to the 1.5oz Switchblade that became a hot favourite for Snapper fisho’s. Anglers were seeking one they could use in even faster current and deeper water. TT Lures have listened and now expanded the range to include the new 2oz Switchblade.
This new size is ideal for jigging, spinning or trolling. These large blades are so good at catching that they often outfish even live bait! The 2oz model shares the same 90mm profile as the 1.5oz, but with added weight to get you down to the strike zone quicker.
TT’s pro team and Aussie anglers have successfully caught Coral Trout, Mackerel, Tuna, Queenfish, Snapper and many more species on it. There’s not much these won’t catch. The bodys blade is Stainless steal and its fitted out with heavy duty terminal. Available in 12 colours, get em while they’re hot!
Yozuri-Duel 3D Shrimp

The new Yozuri Duel 3D Shrimp combines startling realism with Japanese design and technology to create what looks to be one hell of a saltwater lure. This prawn slash shrimp replica comes in 7 realistic colours designed to fool even the most wise of fish. It seems they have drawn inspiration from the popular Yozuri Octopus jigs from japan, sharing similar styling and features.
The 3D Shrimp comes in two sizes 2 3/4 inch and 3 and 1/2 inch and I can see both sizes becoming a popular lure amongst light tackle saltwater anglers down under. Its slow sinking buoyancy and tiny bib allow the lure to be worked similar to a stick bait at slow or medium speed retrieves.
The Yozuri 3D Shrimp comes fitted with a dressed rear chemically sharped treble and false feelers/legs made out of rubber to give it a super realistic finish.
Here’s a tentative list of the colours to be available:
HCPU – Holographic and Ultra Violet Chartreuse Purple
HGS – Holographic Ghost Shrimp
HOV – Holographic Olive
HP – Holographic Hot Pink
HPB- Holographic Pearl Blue
HRT – Holographic Ultra Violet Root beer
LSAC – Luminescent Aurora Chartreus
Zman scented Jerk Shad preview

Z-man are new on the aussie soft plastic scene but have been making an impact. These proven plastics have something in the range for everyone, from the smaller 3″ scented shrimps, right up to the jumbo 8″ Streakz XL. Being an avid softie fishermen myself the one that caught my eye here on the west coast is the 5″ scented Jerk Shads.
I have always found 5″ Jerk Shads to be the perfect all-rounder for inshore boat work. Pink Snapper, Dhufish, Kingfish and just about any other species you can think of will have a go at a 5″ Jerk Shad. Weather its the fine, split tail or the overall profile, there is something about the 5″ Jerk Shads that work.
Z-man has gone one up on the conventional Jerk Shad utilizing there 10X Tough ElaZtech technology. This creates one hell of a strong plastic, with out comprising the seductive action a soft plastic has. They have also now scented these baits and to the fishermen they may smell, well, fishy, to the fish themselves its the equivalent of an ever lasting gobstopper. These scents are derived from real bait fish.
I have just received a few packets and can’t wait to hit the water with them and give them a work out. No doubt plenty of pics to follow. Stay tuned!

Ecogear SX40 – Still the go-to Bream slayer
May 27, 2011 by TT
Ecogear make some mighty fine fish candy and none have seen as much success as the humble SX40. The SX40 is many bream anglers go-to lure. Its small profile and superb action make this finely tuned had brought many bream to their demise.
Despite only weighing 2.5 grams, the SX40 casts like a dream. It’s hard to find a small lure that casts well in most conditions, but the SX40 goes against the grain. This is mainly thanks to well-designed internal weighting system.
As the name suggests the SX40 measures up at 40mm in length. This is an ideal size for chasing bream, flathead and whiting. Occasionally I step up to the bigger brother the Sx48 but for the most part the SX40 will do the job.
How does it swim? The SX40F(Floating) dives to a depth of 1.0 meter and has a tight shimmy action. This tight action entices fish from a distance, and works especially well with hard, fast hitting fish such as bream and flathead.
The colour range is also a huge part in its success. Ecogear have a whopping 27 colours and growing, including the premium metallic finish SX40s. There is a colour to suit any condition and species you can think of. A few personal favourites are the 305, 343 and 348.
The Ecogear SX40s are fitted out with OWNER splits and trebles so there is no need to upgrade the hardware unless you want to go down to a finer gauge hook. I prefer to remove the middle treble (but leave the split for added noise) and stick to the stock owner ST36 on the rear for fishing around structure. Removing the middle treble will reduce snags and if the bream is of a worth size, chances are they hit hard enough that the rear owner will connect anyway.
If you’re after a bream lure that’s been proven to perform again and again, it’s hard to look past the humble Ecogear SX40. Available in all good tackle stores for around $18-22AUD.
Sebile Crankster 35 preview

Sebile is not exactly a brand that sticks to generic designs and unoriginal models. They have been consistently producing new and innovative lures and continue to break the mold with the Crankster 35.
The Crankster 35 is a shallow dive chubby shad. This obese little lure has been making great headway as a Bream slayer since its release. This is mainly due to its ability to fish shallow and structure heavy areas with ease. Its short square bib gives it a tight wobble and has been designed to reduce snags.
Internally the weighting system allows maximum castability, a trait that is often missing on many chubby hard bodies. The Crankster 35 is also one loud little lure. Its loud rattle entices strikes from a distance and sets off all the right signals in surrounding Bream, Bass and Flathead.

Yozuri Hydro Magnum on the water
April 10, 2011 by Josh

After purchasing this lure a while back I was beginning to wonder if I would ever end up landing a fish on it. I had used it once for a short trolling session and after not much action on any lure we decided to call it quits and do some jigging instead.
We had heard the Spanish Mackeral fishing had been firing the past few weeks here in Perth, Western Australia. With a cold front approaching we knew there may not be many more chances to try this species that only show up a few months of the year. The decision was made last minute to head out and try boat one of these pelagic speedsters and by 3pm we were on the water.
In the spread we were running a Halco Laser Pro 190DD in chrome pink, and of course the Yozuri Hydro magnum 14cm model in chrome pilchard colour. As we hit a bait school close to the surface the Laserpro went off first. Unfortunately the lure didn’t stay connected and the fish spat the hooks shortly after. Next to send the ratchet screaming was the Hydro Magnum. A nice sized Mackeral hit the decks and it restored faith in me in the Yozuri’s ability to catch fish.

As some of you will know, I am an avid fan of Yozuri’s range of lures. The EBA shads and Hydro tiger poppers are two of my regular go-to lures. For the rest of the short session, the Hydro Magnum outfished the Halco 3 fish to 1. It seemed that side by side, the mackies where opting for the Yozuri everytime. The lure claims to dive to insane depths, which in perfect conditions Im sure it would, but given a trolling start the lure seemed to stick a about 2 meters below the Halco. Right in the strike zone.
The slightly smaller profile and seductive wobble gave off all the right signals for the Mackeral to hit. The lure withstood the ferocious teeth that mackeral are known for well, and unlike other lure brands, came out relatively unscarred as you can see in the picture above. The stock standard trebles held up well on 30lb gear and decent sized Mackeral. i have seen this lure run with mustad stainless double hooks before and it worked equally as well.
If your looking for something different in your Pelagic tackle box, try the Yozuri Hydro magnums. They may cost a few dollars more than there Australian or American made friends but the proof is in the pudding, or in this case, the fish count.
